Hospitalist Salaries Show Increase in 2006

May 2006,
Oakland, NJ--The national median salary of Hospitalist increased 4.26% in
2006 to $152,950 according to the 2006
Physician Salary Survey Report, published by Hospital
and Healthcare Compensation Service.
These figures represent median annual base pay only, and are
exclusive of bonuses, benefits or additional compensation. The national
planned percent increase for all physician salaries between 1/1/2006 and
12/31/2006 is 3.93%, a decline from last year’s figure of 4.19%.
The median salary reported for Hospitalist in teaching
hospitals was $149,760 compared with $155,045 at non-teaching hospitals.
The average total compensation reported including salary and bonus
was $166,723. Chief of Staff/Medical Director, 43 physician specialties,
interns, and residents are covered in the Report.
Data are reported separately for Hospital-based, Group Practice, and
HMO physicians. Salaries are reported according to nine regions, control
type, teaching or nonteaching status, and facility size. The Report also
includes information on 19 fringe benefits.
