Director of Clinical Services Rate Comparison by Profit Type

Oakland, NJ, May 2018 – The 2nd annual Behavioral Health Salary & Benefits Report, published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS), has just been released.  The results showed the  Director of Clinical Services (MSW) in not-for-profit facilities were paid more than those in for-profit facilities.

The national average hourly rate for Director of Clinical Services (MSW) in for-profit facilities was $40.87; the 50th percentile was $42.35.  The national average in not-for-profit facilities was $44.34; the 50th percentile was $46.64.

2018 HCS Behavioral Health Salary & Benefits Report, national hourly data

An analysis of benefits for behavioral health employees showed a rise in premiums and a decrease in the percent paid by the facility.  Annual health insurance premiums increased from $6,378 in 2017 to $6,902 in 2018 (single employee plan.)  The percent of premium paid by the facility decreased to 77.1% from 80.7% in 2017. The percent of health premiums paid for dependents also decreased, going from 78.1% in 2017 to 73.3% in 2018.

224 behavioral health facilities nationwide participated in the study.  70.98% of participants were not-for-profit facilities; 29.02% reporting were for-profit facilities.  The results cover hourly and bonus data for 51 jobs.  The Report also includes 12 fringe benefits, turnover rates by department, caseload, and actual and projected salary increases by department.
