Data from the 2017-2018 CCRC Salary & Benefits Report

Oakland, NJ, June 2017 – The national average salary for the Director of Human Resources (DHR) in Continuing Care Retirement Communities/Life Plan Communities (CCRCs) increased 3.40% in 2017, compared to 2.41% in 2016, according to the 2017-2018 Continuing Care Retirement Community Salary & Benefits Report.  The national study is published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS) in cooperation with LeadingAge

The national average DHR salary was $81,450.  The average bonus received was 8.32% of salary.  Salaries showed fluctuation by revenue size.  In CCRCs with an annual revenue of <$15,000,000 the national average for DHR was $68,789.  CCRCs with an annual revenue of >=$15,000,000, showed a national average of $89,484.  Comparisons by total unit size (IL, AL + SNF beds combined) also reflected salary differences.  The average salary was $73,450 in the grouping of total units <300.  In the grouping total units >=300, the average salary was $88,234.  The lowest DHR salary reported by CBSA was $65,492 in Orlando-Kissimmee, FL; the highest was $110,111 in Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana, CA. 

This year marks the 20th annual year of publication.  532 CCRCs participated in the study and provided compensation data on 80,000+ employees, covering 46 management and 53 nonmanagement positions.  Findings are reported according to revenue size, total unit size, geographic region, state, and CBSA.  The Report also includes 17 fringe benefits, turnover rates by department, and projected salary increases by department for 2017 to 2018.
