Nursing Home DHR Salaries Increase 4.01%

Oakland, NJ, August 2019 – The national average salary for Directors of Human Resources (DHR’s) in nursing homes increased 4.01% in 2019, according to the 2019-2020 HCS Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report.   The national study is published by Hospital & Healthcare Compensation Service (HCS), in cooperation with LeadingAge and AHCA. 

DHR salaries continued their upward trend from the 2018 increase of 3.38%.  In a comparison by state, the lowest salary reported was South Carolina at $54,444, with the highest reported in New York at $105,634.  The DHR received an average bonus of 14.45% of salary; 25.20% of participants reported bonus data.  Turnover for Top Level Executives decreased from 18.64% in 2018 to 11.63% in 2019. 

Salaries for HR Generalists increased 2.64% in 2019.  The average hourly rate for HR Generalists in for­-profit nursing homes was $22.87; the not-for-profit rate was $27.52; with a combined national hourly rate of $25.28.

National data from the 2019-2020 Nursing Home Salary & Benefits Report.

This year marks the 42nd annual year of publication.  37.99% of study participants were not-for-profit facilities, while 62.01% were for-profit facilities.  1,611 nursing homes participated in the study and provided compensation data on 166,000+ employees, covering 46 management and 53 nonmanagement positions.  The results are reported according to revenue size, profit type, region, state, and CBSA.  The Report also includes 18 fringe benefits, shift differentials, and projected salary increases by department for 2019 to 2020.
